Body Language: Integrating Somatic Activities into Talk Therapy

Join Karen Carnabucci, LCSW, TEP, from the Lancaster School of Psychodrama and Experiential Psychotherapies for this session that will focus on the safe and effective use of varied somatic activities derived from psychodrama, Somatic Experiencing and energy psychology in individual, couple and group sessions.
The three-hour training will consist of didactic material, demonstrations, experiential practice among peers, sharing, and opportunities for questions and comments. Attendees will be able to observe, practice and receive feedback on these activities and practices during the workshop and will be able to safely put them into use in their practices immediately.
In addition, trainees will be able to access an online handout page with multiple resources, including articles, book recommendations, videos and other learning materials.
Participants are welcome to bring their business cards and other promotional materials for the sharing table.

You will learn how to:
Identify rationale for incorporating somatic activities in psychotherapeutic talk sessions.
Identify the range of somatic activities in psychotherapy.
Learn and practice the Body Double intervention, a variation of the Double technique of psychodrama, to increase body awareness.
Learn and practice selected techniques from Somatic Experiencing to increase body and nervous system safety.
Increase comfort and skills in working with the body without being a bodyworker, movement therapist or physical therapist.
CE and psychodrama credits
This training will provide three CE credits for social workers, LMFTs, licensed professional counselors, psychologists and addictions counselors, plus psychodrama hours suitable for certification with the American Board of Examiners in Psychodrama, Sociometry and Group Psychotherapy and the International Association of Experiential Professionals. CE credits expire in Pennsylvania within a two-year cycle; psychodrama hours do not expire.
